Biography: Ensemble Vocal, a mixed chamber choir from Hamburg (Germany), was founded in 1994 and has specialised in contemporary acappella music. They rehearse once a week for two and a half hours plus twice a week for a full weekend.
Under their conductor Cornelius Trantow, Ensemble Vocal has become one of Germany‘s leading chamber choirs. The group has performed in over 200 concerts in Germany and abroad, comprising several first performances. The choir had been awarded many national and international awards. They had been awarded first place in the “Mixed Chamber Choirs” category in the German Choir Competition in Kiel, Germany in 2006. They also had been awarded the best competition programme and the best conducting of a compulsary work at the International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf 2007, as well as the special award for the best choral work at the Fleischmann International Trophy competition in Cork, Ireland in 2012. Furthermore the choir has also been awarded second place in the International Choir Competitions in Mosbach, Germany and Debrecen,Hungary.
So about every second year the choir tries to travel and participate in international competitions.
