NSPCC’s Pantosaurus drops into Llangollen Eisteddfod to help keep children safe

Hundreds of schoolchildren have seen a musical performance with a difference at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod while learning how to keep themselves safe.

The NSPCC’s dinosaur mascot Pantosaurus appeared on the main stage on Tuesday (3 July) to promote the leading children’s charity’s ‘PANTS’ campaign to children from around 45 schools.

The campaign has helped more than 400,000 parents across the UK talk to their children about sexual abuse since it launched four years ago. Talking PANTS is designed to teach children that their body belongs to them, they have the right to say no and to tell someone they trust if they’re ever worried about anything. (more…)

Llangollen to join the big NHS Singalong Live!

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod will be joining the NHS choir, staff and music stars from throughout the UK, in a national live singalong to celebrate the 70th birthday of the NHS.

A brand new one-off live ITV programme on Wednesday 4th July will capture the crowds in Llangollen, NHS choir, celebrities and crowds coming together to try and beat a record for the biggest live sing along to be broadcast. The singalong in Llangollen will take place as the finale to the Classical Collection concert. (more…)

Ysgol Dinas Brân School Children Send Message of Peace

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod has selected local secondary school, Ysgol Dinas Brân to participate in its annual peace initiative at this year’s festival.

Performing on the main Royal Pavilion stage on Thursday 5th July, the school is set to deliver the International Eisteddfod message of peace in a performance of mime and narration, complete with a song entitled ‘Peace at Last’. (more…)

Peace through time at the International Eisteddfod

As we approach the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod (3rd – 8th July), its historical peace message remains at the core of the festival’s ethos. Since 1952, through to present day, Llangollen children have shared a message of goodwill to the world from the festival’s Royal Pavilion Stage.

Children from Ysgol Dinâs Bran will present this year’s message on Thursday 5th July during the evening concert, through a special performance of mime and narration – bringing modernity and flair to the initiative. They will close with a contemporary peace song entitled ‘Peace at Last’, in keeping with the theme of the message. (more…)

John Lennon’s sister honoured to be first Day President of Llanfest

Julia Baird, John Lennon’s sister, will be the first person ever to be honoured as the Day President for Llanfest, the finale day of the International Eisteddfod.

There has been a long tradition of Day Presidents being honoured at the week-long Eisteddfod. Day Presidents are invited to the event to recognise the ongoing work they do in spreading the message of peace and goodwill, which is at the heart of the event.

Llanfest is the final Sunday of the festival and has evolved into a modern mix of rock, pop and indie music, including bands such as the Manic Street Preachers and this year’s headliners, indie-pop legends the Kaiser Chiefs. (more…)

Chester to host International Eisteddfod Outreach Project

During the week of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, singers from across the Atlantic will be performing throughout Chester to help promote the festival’s message of peace and goodwill.

Attracting up to 4,000 performers and up to 50,000 visitors annually, the International Eisteddfod takes place every year during the first week of July.  This year, there will be an opportunity for Chester audiences to appreciate some of the exceptional talent, with several free performances scheduled at the Storyhouse and Chester Cathedral. The Llangollen Eisteddfod SENDS A Message of Peace to All

The Llangollen Eisteddfod is celebrating ten years of its Inclusion Project with the commission of a brand new performance piece, SEND A Message, on Wednesday 4th July.

The fully inclusive project, which promotes harmony and accessibility for all within the performing arts, celebrates its tenth year with a performance piece written by poet Aled Lewis Evans and composer Owain Llwyd.

Performed by children from St Christopher’s School in Wrexham, Ysgol Tir Morfa in Rhyl, Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn in Denbighshire, individuals from Derwen College in Oswestry and the Theatretrain Regional Choir in Mold, SEND A Message promotes the idea of spreading love and peace via music, song and dance and showcases a range of diverse talent from across Wales.

Llanfest Full line-up Revealed

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod has revealed the full star-studded outside stage line-up for this year’s Llanfest (Sunday 8th July, 2pm).

Multi-platinum English indie pop-legends, Kaiser Chiefs will be headlining on the main stage, supported by renowned pop rock band Hoosiers and nineties icons Toploader.

Llanfest is fast becoming a ‘music Mecca’ to see emerging bands on the outside stages during the day before the headliners take to the main stage in the evening. This year festival-goers will be able to enjoy three outdoor stages, jam-packed with rock, pop and indie music.

International Eisteddfod preparations off to a flying start

The Welsh hills were brought alive with the sound of music last week, as members of the Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir demonstrated their vocal technique whilst swinging through the sky on Europe’s highest five seater swing.

Hoisted at over 80ft in the air, members aged between 60 – 80 years were put through their vocal paces, holding their notes, not breath, whilst reaching dizzying heights in preparation to sing under pressure at this year’s International Eisteddfod.

BRITISH IRONWORKS SUPPORTS INTERNATIONAL EISTEDDFOD FOR SIXTH YEAR

An organisation that is known for its powerful stance against weapons, British Ironworks, is once again sponsoring the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.

After winning the Rotary International Peace Prize hosted at the festival in 2017 and gaining international recognition for its Save a Life, Surrender Your Knife weapons amnesty project, the institution has created a special fixture especially for this year’s celebrations.
