Today in the pavilion we kick off with our Instrumental ensemble competition. With a wonderful variety of ensembles from all over the world it is sure to get you ready for a full day of competitions. With Dance, Children’s Choirs and Instrumental solo finals it is a day not to be missed!


In the Pavilion today:

  • Instrumental: Instrumental Ensemble – consisting of between 6 and 30 members of any age will present a programme of two contrasting pieces in any style or genre lasting up to 8 minutes. Ensembles can include any combination of instruments and can be orchestral, brass, folk, contemporary, jazz, wind, etc.

  • Dance: Traditional Folk Dance – groups of between 4 and 30 dancers (aged 16 or over) and a total of 8 musicians and 2 flag-bearers will perform a programme of up to 5 minutes showcasing the folk-dance traditions of the group’s culture.

  • Choral: Children’s Folk Song Choirs – This children’s choir competition is for singers aged 18 and under. They will be singing a programme of 7 minutes, which will include repertoire of traditional folk songs from the choir’s own country.

  • Solo: International Instrumentalist of the Future (15 to 21 yrs) – participants will perform a programme of up to 7 minutes of music in the preliminary round and up to 8 minutes of music in the final. The programme will include contrasting classical works.

  • Choral: Children’s Open Choirs – This children’s competition is for male, female or mixed children’s choirs aged 17 years or under. They will be singing a programme of 7 minutes. The programme will showcase one genre only (e.g. Acapella, barbershop, classical, glee, gospel, jazz, pop, show, musical theatre) and will also include at least one unaccompanied piece.

The International Voice of Musical Theatre Final 7:30pm

Our concert DIRECT FROM THE WEST END: KERRY ELLIS & JOHN OWEN-JONES will also feature the International Voice of Musical Theatre final. Two solo finalists will be chosen to perform, and one of their songs will be accompanied by our live band.
