This week, Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod announces its star-studded evening concert line-up for 2019.

Returning festival favourite and Vice President of the Eisteddfod, Jools Holland, will entertain the Royal Pavilion audience with his legendary Rhythm and Blues Orchestra on Monday 1st July. The jazz, blues and swing showstopper will launch the 2019 concert series with an unforgettable toe-tapping extravaganza of live music, kindly sponsored by Kronospan.

International Eisteddfod celebrates World Piano Day by revealing repertoire for two-pianos performance

To celebrate World Piano Day [Thursday 29th March] the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod has revealed the repertoire for its Music Director, Vicky Yannoula’s performance with acclaimed pianist Peter Jablonski.

Forming part of The Classical Collection on Wednesday 4th July, pianists Vicky and Peter will take to the stage of the International Pavilion for a moving collaboration, featuring well-known and much-loved pieces, in a performance inspired by the power and magic of the piano.

Mega prize attracts record number of the world’s best young singers

Search for Voice of the Future Competition entrants heats up as prize fund increases to record high.

Twenty-four of the world’s best young singers are flocking to North Wales to compete for a prestigious new international prize.

Competitors from as far afield as Switzerland, the Philippines, the USA and China will be competing for the title of International Voice of the Future at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on Thursday, July 6.

The record number of entrants has been attracted by the boost given to the prize fund by the arts-loving Pendine Park care organisation and the Sir Bryn Terfel Foundation.

Inspirational young singer Joseph chosen to star with Sir Bryn Terfel

An “inspirational” young singer who overcame a rare kidney condition has landed a dream role to perform with opera superstar Sir Bryn Terfel.

Joseph Elwy Jones, 11, will take to the stage at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod as the Shepherd Boy in a star-studded production of Puccini’s classic opera, Tosca.

The concert on Tuesday, July 4, which is being sponsored by arts-loving care organisation Pendine Park, also features two other world-class opera stars, soprano Kristine Opolais and tenor Kristian Benedikt.

Appearing in Llangollen will be a “dream come true” for top tenor

Superstar tenor Joseph Calleja will be fulfilling a long-held ambition when he appears at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.

Not only will he be following in the footsteps of his hero, Luciano Pavarotti, the Maltese singer will also be appearing with one of his best friends, the globally acclaimed bass baritone, Bryn Terfel.

Joseph and Bryn will be taking to the stage together for the Classical Gala Concert marking the 70th Llangollen Eisteddfod since the iconic festival was founded in 1947 to promote peace and harmony in the world. (more…)

Search for world’s best young singers given a massive boost

An iconic competition to find the world’s best young singers has been given a massive boost by a pioneering care organisation.

Pendine Park has agreed to more than triple the prize money up for grabs in the prestigious Voice of the Future competition at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.

According to the festival’s Musical Director, Eilir Owen Griffiths, increasing the annual prize to £5,000 from 2017 onwards will “catapult the competition into a whole new league”.

He said: “This is a truly remarkable gesture which will lead to a big surge in interest for new vocal talent.

“The timing is especially appropriate as we will be celebrating our 70th anniversary in 2017 and looking forward to an even brighter future.”
