The rousing opening of the 2017 Eisteddfod will be a celebration of brass and voices with the combined forces of four formidable Male Voice Choirs and the world class Cory Brass Band. Having won the ‘International Voice of the Future’ competition at the Llangollen Eisteddfod in 2015, Meinir Wyn Roberts has been invited to star as the guest soloist in the opening concert.
The evening will feature a 200 voice choir of well-established friends of the Eisteddfod with Rhos Male Voice Choir, Canoldir Male Voice Choir and two choirs that appeared in the very first Eisteddfod, Fron Male Voice Choir and Colne Valley Male Voice Choir.
Under the leadership of the son of one of the Eisteddfod’s previous Music Directors, Owain Arwel Hughes, the evening will include performances of some of Wales’ best known and emotive hymns, powerful operatic choruses and inspiring classical favourites.
The evening also includes the presentation of the Rotary International Peace Award.
