Lake District girls’ choir Amabile are back in North Wales in July having already won competitions in this area.
Amabile has won the Senior Children’s Choir Class at Llangollen and in October 2012 clinched first prize in the North Wales Choral Festival in Llandudno.
In this year’s Eisteddfod they are competing in the Senior Children’s Choir category on Wednesday 10 July.
The choir was formed in 1996 by Charlotte Jackson and have competed to great acclaim nationally and internationally. They have recently appointed Rachel Little as their new artistic director.
Amabile has toured extensively, visiting countries such as Slovenia, France, Canada and the USA. They have appeared on Greek and British television, most notably on the BBC’s Songs of Praise.
Winners of the European Musical Festival for Youngsters and the Youth Division of the Manchester Amateur Choral Competition, Amabile were named BBC Radio3 Youth Choir of the Year. In 2012 the girls won Choir of the Day in the Choir of the Year competition. Their outstanding contribution to the civic life of Kendal was also recognized when they received the Alfred Wainwright Memorial Award under Frances Chiasson.
