Cathays Brass

Cathays Brass started in late 2014 as a friendly and inclusive Brass ensemble, who perform regularly at community and charity events throughout Cardiff.

We are currently the National Eisteddfod champions in the Open Ensemble category and having enjoyed that first festival experience we would love to be a part of your international event. We are keen on developing relationships with other ensembles and in our brief history we have already hosted a concert alongside Musikverin Stuttgart-Hofen in Cardiff and subsequently accepted a return invite to their Musikfest last May.

In September 2015 we were pleased to appoint Martyn Ford as our Director of Music.

Martyn Ford is a conductor with an international reputation, having conducted major symphony orchestras on three continents. Martyn has conducted and recorded with the London Philharmonic, conducted and arranged several “Classic Rock” albums with the London Symphony and the Royal Choral Society, winning gold and platinum record awards.

The submitted MP3 is a rehearsal recording of the Amethyst March (Leighton Lucas.) This reflects a classic brass band work; a genre which has had a strong presence in Wales dating back to the early 19th Century. The piece was written in 1957, around the  heyday of Brass Bands in our communities and was included in our National Eisteddfod winning programme back in August. This is the sort of traditional Welsh culture we’d be looking to promote on the International stage in July should you accept our application.
