Dawnswyr Bro Cefni

A short history of your Choir or Group and its achievements to support your application (max 300 words).

Dawnswyr Bro Cefni is a Welsh Folk dance group that performs Welsh Folk dances, both traditional and recently composed dances in the traditional style. The dancers perform to the traditional folk instruments of Wales – harps (both triple and single), fiddles and the ancient pibgorn (hornpipe).

The group was established in 2004 by husband and wife, Huw and Bethan Roberts from Llangefni, Anglesey.

Dawnswyr Bro Cefni was  invited to perform at an international festival of folk dance and song in Prague, Czech Republic in 2007 and the Vizenzifest festival in Wendlingen near Stuttgart, Germany, in 2009 and 2012.

In 2011 the group arranged an exchange visit with ‘Estello Aubanenco’, a folk dance group from Provence in southern France.

Over the years Dawnswyr Bro Cefni has competed successfully at local eisteddfodau and the Gwyl Cerdd Dant  and in 2010 won both the children and the adults traditional folk dance competitions at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod.

Dawnswyr Bro Cefni’s emphasis on historical correctness regarding costume is renowned. Being an authority on the traditional costumes and folk music of Wales, Huw has led workshops and lectured all over Wales on these subjects and also on Welsh Heritage courses in both Canada and the USA.  Both he and his wife Bethan have also led numerous Welsh dance workshops in their community and further afield.
