Flint Male Voice Choir

Cor Meibion Y Fflint / Flint Male Voice Choir

The choir was founded in 1975, largely from workers in textiles, mining, and steel which were the dominant industries locally. We have seen ups and downs, not least the closure of those industries, which gave rise to the BBC documentary, “The Choir, the Passion, and the Song”, which is our unofficial motto, But the choir survived and has proudly carried the flag of Wales, both to our neighbours and those further afield, such as Malta, Prague, Germany and Brittany, making friends wherever we go.

There have been many highlights. Winning the National Eisteddfod twice, Cor Cymru, coming 3rd in the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, repeated trips to the Royal Albert Hall to sing as part of the massed Welsh voices, also several visits to the Celtic Festival in Lorient, in 2015 we sang in the BBC film REG,starring Tim Roth, and have recently sung alongside Cerys Matthews.

We are constantly planning for the future, including a trip to the Isle of Man festival in 2017, concerts in Liverpool, New Brighton, Cheshire and in 2018, the Royal Albert Hall.

It wont last 6 months, they said in 1975, but here we are today in 2016 still going strong. The textiles, mining ,and steel industries, closed down a generation ago, people joining since then have come from a variety of backgrounds, and have been welcomed in what amounts to a second family for all of us.  We are forward looking progressive in outlook, and there have been many changes over the years.

That said there are three things that will always continue to go from strength to strength.  The Choir, The Passion and The Song.
