Henry Fung began is musical career when he had his first Erhu lesson from his father at the tender age of ten. Practice of up to 10 hrs a day perfected his craft and by the age of 17 he was proficient enough as a musician to join the Huang Kwong Chinese Orchestra. By doing so, he gained experience in Erhu performance both in groups and as a soloist in front of a variety of different audiences.
At the age of 22, Henry gained qualified teacher status in Hong Kong. He then devoted his time to teaching and organising Chinese Music Clubs in schools and colleges throughout the country. During these years, Henry became increasingly involved in Cantonese Opera Clubs in Hong Kong, with the result that his style of playing became heavily influenced by the traditional Cantonese Style.
When Henry moved in UK in 1998, his devotion to his chosen career led him to gain recognition within the Chinese community here. This led to opportunities to work in schools in Manchester, teaching workshops and giving Erhu demonstrations.
Due to his experience and Erhu playing skill in Cantonese Opera Music, Henry has won the hearts of many Cantonese Opera singers and musicians in this country and is now the Musical Director of the renowned Cantonese Opera Club Manchester’s Chinatown.
