Founded in 1968 Highcliffe Junior Choir is a small but dynamic children’s choir with a glittering history. The choir repertoire is mostly classical and its trademark is purity of sound.
The choir has sung in BBC’s Advert calendar and performed alongside both professional and choral ensembles as diverse as in single singers, The Kings Singers, The Grand Central Chorus, and the City of London Chamber Choir and in Bournemouth Back Choir.
There are some commercial recordings featuring in choir, including the award-winning disc of Car Off’s Carmina Burana with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and chorus under Marin Alsop.
Open to any young person, it is a community choir and is very self-funding. Its aims we to make music accessible to as many young people as possible to teach them about loyalty, being a reliable part in a team and build self-confidence together with feeling if in all embrace happiness of the choir.
Sainsbury’s Youth Choir Of the year in 1996, the choir also performed in the 100th Prom Cancer which was televised, at the Royal Albert Hall.
Last August, two members took part in the Eton Choral Course of the first, conducted by Ralph Allwood. They returned so inspired, they joined at the Christchurch Priory Choir.
The Choir first competition at Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod when an adjudicator at the London Music Festival suggested it should be competing at international level.
Each year the members unanimously vote that nothing compare with the thrill competitions at Llangollen. This will be our 45th consecutive year. The first prize has always eluded us but we have been placed second or third on a few occasions.
Parents of former Choirs members and indeed former member still visit the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. They said there is nothing like it anywhere else in the world.
