Owen’s School Chamber Choir was formed in January 2006, when its conductor, Mr Simon Werner, was appointed as Director of Music. There was already an established tradition of choral singing at the school and many pupils sang in the Senior Mixed Choir which was not auditioned, however, it was felt that an auditioned Chamber Choir would raise the standard of choral singing further and provide greater challenges for our advanced singers.
The Chamber Choir consists of thirty-five singers from the Upper School (Years 10 – 13), many of whom receive individual singing lessons. The choir performs at a variety of school events including regular choral concerts and sacred services and participates in competitive festivals around the country. The attached recording is of two pieces which are typical repertoire choices; Daybreak Song by Imant Raminsh and The Dark Eyed Sailor arranged by Vaughan Williams. The choir has been fortunate enough to compete at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod on five occasions in the past, and in 2010 and 2011 the choir achieved fourth place against eighteen and seventeen international choirs respectively
