The chorus formed in 2008 and is a member of Sweet Adelines International, which is an organisation of female singers that strives to promote the love of Barbershop Harmony throughout the world. Membership has opened the doors to much valued education in vocal skills development, access to wonderful song arrangements, and the expertise of visiting professional coaches.
Our current Musical Director is Graham Davies. Graham has only been directing the chorus for a few weeks following the retirement of our previous MD, Helen Glavina, who still sings with the chorus. Whilst new to Rhapsody, Graham has many years experience directing and coaching 4-part harmony choruses.
Many of the chorus members have been part of the music life of Peterborough choirs for numerous years, singing 4-part harmony for much of the time.
At the Sweet Adelines annual national competition held at The Sage in Newcastle upon Tyne in May 2016, under Helen’s direction, the chorus won the gold medal in the small chorus category.
The chorus participates in other local music festivals and competitions, and loves to entertain in the community, which includes singing at Christmas in support of local charities. Rhapsody chorus is entirely self funding. Recruitment takes place throughout the year and will continue in earnest in 2017, with particular emphasis on attracting younger singers.
