National University Singapore Choir Crowned Choir of the World

2018 International Eisteddfod concludes with an exciting battle for prestigious titles of ‘Choir of the World’ and ‘Dance Champions of the World’ – and an edgy Baroque performance from special guests, Red Priest.

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod 2018 [SATURDAY 7TH JULY] reached its exciting climax, as two international groups won the highest accolades of the festival’s dance and choral competitions.

After a thrilling final, National University Singapore Choir from Singapore were named Choir of the World, while Al-lzhar High School Pondok Labu dance group from Indonesia were crowned Dance Champions of the World.

First choir to sing at Llangollen prepares for historic return

The first ever choir to sing at the world-famous Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod is to make a symbolic return to celebrate the festival’s 70th year.

The Colne Valley Male Voice Choir, based in Huddersfield, has scooped six titles at the historic festival over the years as well as five second places and two third prizes – but back in 1947 they missed out.

The 70-strong choir, which was founded in Slaithwaite in 1922, was the first to take to the Eisteddfod stage in 1947 and it was up against choirs from Hungary, the eventual winners, Spain, Italy, Denmark and Holland as well as Wales and England.
