Classical singing sensation Katherine Jenkins OBE has been unveiled as a star attraction at next year’s Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
According to the talented mezzo soprano, she’s delighted to be returning to the iconic festival for the first time since her last appearance in 2010.
She will be treating the audience at the opening night of the 2016 Eisteddfod to a concert version of Georges Bizet’s opera, Carmen, the tale of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier seduced by the fiery Gypsy.

LEADERS of Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod formed a guard of honour to greet a group of young Nepalese dancers who endured the earthquakes which devastated their country when they arrived to perform at the festival..
A reception committee including Eisteddfod Chairman Gethin Davies, Vice-Chairman Rhys Davies, Chief Executive David Neal and Musical Director Eilir Owen Griffiths, along with scores of volunteers and visitors, waited at the main entrance to give a warm Welsh reception to the five musicians from the Rising Culture Group who had a gruelling 28-hour journey to reach Llangollen.

Irish eyes were smiling after the final two major competitions of the week at the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod.
The Maynooth University Chamber Choir, based in Kildare, in the Republic of Ireland took the Pavarotti Choir of the World trophy after fighting off stiff competition from two English choirs, one from Wales and one from the US state of California.

A MAN who has attended Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod every year since it started turned up for his 69th consecutive festival last week.
Elwyn Jones was at the very first Eisteddfod as an 18-year-old boy in 1947 and at 87 is proud of the fact he hasn’t missed once since.

The only two-time chairman of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod steps down this week, ending a 64-year association with the great event.
Gethin Davies began as a 12-year-old programme seller in 1951 and has also been an usher and the festival secretary as well as chairman from 1992 to 2003 and from 2013 to this year.

FANS are now seeing a lot less of top tenor and broadcaster Wynne Evans.
It’s not that he’s cut down any on his appearances on radio and TV from this year’s Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod but simply because Wynne has managed to shed an incredible 5st in weight in just the past three months.

A CLASSIC car with a special paper facelift is being used as a vehicle to help people living with dementia.
The rare 1975 Daf 44 saloon owned by freelance artist Carol Hanson is on show at this week’s Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod as part of a two-year project called Dementia and Imagination which aims to help people to cope with the condition in a fun, visual way.

A teenage volunteer at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod has won a prestigious national photography competition run by the Sunday Times.
Millie Adams Davies, from Llangollen, will have her winning photograph on display at the Eisteddfod where she has been a volunteer since the age of 11.

PERFORMING at eisteddfods back in her Australian homeland from the age of just five was the perfect preparation for her glittering career as one of the world’s premier saxophonists, according to Amy Dickson.
And Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is doing the same for top musicians of the future, according to the twice Grammy nominated star.
Amy, who has played prestigious dates across the world and has a strong of hit classical albums to her name, revealed one of the secrets of her success when she took to the stage to accept the coveted role as Day President of the Eisteddfod yesterday (Thursday).

THE Third World War has already started, according to peace campaigner Terry Waite CBE.
Mr Waite, who himself spent almost five years as the hostage of a terrorist group in Beirut, gave that stark message when he delivered a powerful address to the audience at Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod of which he is President.
