First English win for Children’s Choir of the World

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod has welcomed back Cantabile Hereford Cathedral School choir conductor, Jo Williamson to collect their prestigious Children’s Choir of the World trophy.

After leaving the festival last month without realising their victory, the winning choir now has their trophy at last. The joint win with the British Columbia Girls’ Choir from Canada, both with scores of 89.7 meant that they also, were to receive the highly regarded Owen Davies prize.

International Eisteddfod Celebrates International Friendship Day

This International Friendship Day, the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is honoring relationships that have been established over the past 70 years since it began, highlighting the importance of friendship by celebrating the 800 volunteers who provide crucial support throughout the week-long event. Every year the small Welsh town of Llangollen comes alive with its annual festival of music, folklore and dance, welcoming up to 50,000 visitors and 4,000 performers from all over the world.

International Friendship Day (July 30th) established by the UN aims for more people to make and celebrate friendship throughout the world, this ultimately leads to less chance of injustice, war, poverty and much more.

National University Singapore Choir Crowned Choir of the World

2018 International Eisteddfod concludes with an exciting battle for prestigious titles of ‘Choir of the World’ and ‘Dance Champions of the World’ – and an edgy Baroque performance from special guests, Red Priest.

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod 2018 [SATURDAY 7TH JULY] reached its exciting climax, as two international groups won the highest accolades of the festival’s dance and choral competitions.

After a thrilling final, National University Singapore Choir from Singapore were named Choir of the World, while Al-lzhar High School Pondok Labu dance group from Indonesia were crowned Dance Champions of the World.

Arian Teleheal and Sara Rowbotham Named Winners of Rotary Peace Award

Arian Teleheal wins the international award, while the national accolade is presented to Sara Rowbotham for her outstanding work with the Rochdale Crisis Intervention Team for the NHS

A charity that uses volunteer doctors from the UK and US to advise their colleagues in war zones and low resource countries using encrypted social media has won the Rotary International Peace Award.

Dr. Waheed Arian and the Arian Teleheal charity was awarded the accolade, which is sponsored by Typhoo Tea, during the renowned International Celebration concert at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on Thursday 5th July.

Mared Williams Named International Voice of Musical Theatre 2018

Welsh performer scoops prestigious title and opportunity-of-a-lifetime prize to sing at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod in Australia

A Welsh performer has been named Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod’s International Voice of Musical Theatre for 2018.

Mared Williams, aged 21, wowed audiences and adjudicators with her performances of “So Big / So Small”,  “Pulled” from The Addams Family and “Being Alive” on the stage of the Royal International Pavilion in the competition’s final on Wednesday 4th July. (more…)

Inclusion Project SENDS A Message of Peace for Tenth Year

The Llangollen Eisteddfod celebrated ten years of its Inclusion Project today [WEDNESDAY 4TH JULY] with the performance of its newly commission piece, SEND A Message on the Royal international Pavilion stage.

Facilitated by a generous grant from the ScottishPower Foundation, the performance captured the hearts and minds of festival audiences, as five unique groups from across Wales and Shropshire came together to deliver the piece to excited crowds.  (more…)

Alfie Boe Dazzles at International Eisteddfod Opening Night

Much-loved tenor captivates audience as he makes his fourth appearance in ten years at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod

Acclaimed tenor, the much-loved Alfie Boe, provided a dazzling start to the 2018 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod as he took the pavilion stage last night [TUESDAY 3RD JULY].

Dubbed ‘Britain’s favourite tenor’ the hugely successful recording artist, West End and Broadway sensation was joined by his ensemble of stellar musicians, as he showcased some of his new and best loved songs to a full house.

NSPCC’s Pantosaurus drops into Llangollen Eisteddfod to help keep children safe

Hundreds of schoolchildren have seen a musical performance with a difference at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod while learning how to keep themselves safe.

The NSPCC’s dinosaur mascot Pantosaurus appeared on the main stage on Tuesday (3 July) to promote the leading children’s charity’s ‘PANTS’ campaign to children from around 45 schools.

The campaign has helped more than 400,000 parents across the UK talk to their children about sexual abuse since it launched four years ago. Talking PANTS is designed to teach children that their body belongs to them, they have the right to say no and to tell someone they trust if they’re ever worried about anything. (more…)
