Cymru: Brasil was established by Angharad Harrop (Wales) and Ruan de Vargas (Brazil) in 2010. Since the company’s initial beginnings on the roof top of an apartment in Rio de Janeiro, the company has grown from strength to strength with the support of Wales Arts International, Arts Council of Wales and the Ministerio da Cultura. Following their debut performance at Cultural eXchanges Festival in 2012, Cymru: Brasil were invited to perform as part of Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Leicester. In 2013 Cymru:Brasil were in residence at the Centro Coreografico da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro creating new work which received standing ovations from some of Capoeira’s highest regarded Mestres. As well as performance work, Cymru: Brasil undertake a lot outreach work within the communities of North Wales and Rio de Janeiro, offering children and young people opportunities to gain skills and build confidence through learning about their own culture and that of another. 2016 will be Cymru: Brasil’s 3rd appearance at Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod and we are looking forward to sharing our new work with the brilliant festival goers.
