From Children’s Entertainer to UN Peace Envoy; Bill Brookman in conversation

Author and journalist Jessica Hatcher-Moore in conversation with the intrepid Bill Brookman recounting the times when, as a Guardian journalist, she covered Bill’s remarkable cat-and mouse televised music event in Mogadishu.  This was the first international concert for 20 years defying al Shabaab, the Muslim extremist organisation which banned all music in Somalia’s capital for 20 years, until Bill’s concert. From this to organising rock concerts in Haiti’s slums to draw out the controlling armed criminal gangs as a prelude to their entering negotiations with the United Nations amidst gun battles with up to 7,000 rounds fired. Bill’s life is an extraordinary example of the power of music and art to create change.
