Biography:

Black Sheep Harmony are a female Acappella chorus. We were founded in 2012 with just 9 singers and have steadily grown in numbers to over 40 members today.

Black Sheep’s roots are in barbershop, but over the past few years have broken out of that style’s narrow confines and homophonic nature and have embraced the wonderful world of polyphony and the beauty to be found in choral performance.

Goals:

Our mission statement is to aim for musical excellence whilst maintaining an ethos of having fun and entertaining our audiences.

We have sung and performed in lots of venues, from National Trust properties to supermarkets. Or as we like to say, from Tyntesfield Abbey to Tesco’s; basically anywhere there is an audience! Part of our ethos is to host our own concerts and, in the process, raise money for charity.

We also love competition and have competed in local and national events in which we have received awards and accolades for our unique, rich harmonies. Including being described as sounding like ‘an indulgent cup of hot chocolate’!

Director

In 2019 our founding director, David Proud, retired and we were fortunate to find our new Musical Director, Peter (Nooj) Nugent. He has many years of conducting experience, which includes becoming the founding director of the Warminster Military Wives choir.

He was also the Artistic Director nationally for the Military Wives, co-ordinating and running a concert tour with Sir Cliff Richard.

Our repertoire includes contemporary songs and a ‘classical style’ take on pop hits like Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody‘ and The Beatles ‘Blackbird’.

Most recently we added choral arrangements including Edvard Grieg’s ‘In The Hall Of The Mountain King’ and are the first treble (SSAA) choir to be granted permission to perform Eric Whitacre’s ‘Sleep’ (arranged by our own Musical director – ‘Nooj’).
