Biography:
Cor Meibion Machynlleth was formed in 2014 as a new male voice choir located in Machynlleth, Mid Wales. The Musical Director (Aled Myrddin) has always been at the heart of the choir when it was formed and has guided the choir to new experiences and success over the last 10 years. The first sole purpose of forming the choir was to compete in the National Eisteddfod, as the location was local for the choir. The Choir placed 2nd in their first competition and gave the choir a desire to want to succeed further.
The Choir won the Male Voice Class of ‘Cor Cymru’ in 2017, and then going on to win the National Eisteddfod in the same year. The success of the choir bought much attention, with a professional recording in 2018 along with an invitation to the Welsh society in Canada to perform in their annual concert. The choir won the National Eisteddfod once again in 2023, along with an invitation to open the first ever ‘Carwyn James festival’ in North Italy. What makes Cor Meibion Machynlleth unique is its members, with nearly all working within agriculture, and all living in the small surrounding area.
The musical director is Aled Myrddin, who moved to mid wales as a Physical Education teacher in 2006. Aled has performed as a soloist when younger, and as a member of different choirs. He has a won 2 notable composing competitions, winning ‘Can i Gymru 2008’ and ‘Emyn i Gymru’ in 2022.
The choir is always up for a new challenge and enjoy competing when possible.
