Biography:
Our choir is the University of Cagliari CRUC choir from Cagliari, Sardinia. The CRUC Cagliari choir was founded recently in 2022 under the direction of Maestro Patrizia Burgio. Our 30 members work or have worked at the university and are all part of the workers’ social club (hence the name CRUC). Our repertoire ranges from traditional Sardinian and Italian songs, more recent well-known Italian songs and Gospel music in English.
Group Activities
The choir has taken part in many institutional events at the university (opening of the academic year, ceremonies for honorary degrees and memorials, etc.) but also performed on less formal occasions linked to more social events (for example the CRUC hosted the Italian University Footrace Championships in 2023) and we recently performed at the opening of the Intercral Sardinia Figurative Art Exhibition at Cagliari’s Archaeological Museum. This year we also participated in UNIinCANTO in Urbino (Italy) which is an annual festival for university choirs who compete for the “golden bycocket hat”.
Our inspiration also derives from the fact that we come from an Island where Sardinian traditions and the Sardinian language are of extreme importance and strongly felt by all who live here which explains why much of our repertoire is in Sardinian.
Director
Our music director Maestro Burgio graduated from Cagliari’s Music Conservatory with a Diploma in Opera Singing. She has been teaching Modern Singing since 2008 at both the Conservatory and the Civic Music School and has been the music director of a number of choirs. Her teaching and conducting method focus on technical aspects but is also aimed at nurturing expressivity, helping her choirs transmit as much emotion to their audience as possible.
