Daf Jones

Biography:

Daf Jones is a bilingual solo acoustic singer/songwriter from Anglesey, North Wales. He has been performing as a solo artist for over ten years, playing hundreds of gigs all over Wales and beyond – and has vast experience of playing pubs, bars, clubs, restaurants, care homes, functions, weddings, schools and festivals.

Daf has released two albums of original Welsh music, the first back in 2021 called ‘Paid Troi ‘Nôl’ (Don’t Turn Back). It received an excellent response upon release, and featured on BBC Radio Cymru and S4C’s ‘Heno’ and ‘Noson Lawen’ programmes. The album was also listed for the 2021 Welsh Music Prize award.

The second album, ‘Dianc’ (Escape) has been released earlier this year at the end of March. The album has again been well received with radio play on BBC Radio Cymru so far and positive feedback in general.

As well as his own music, Daf also plays a wide range of covers from bands and artists from the 1970s to the 2000s. He has also supported some of the biggest bands and artists in Wales, such as Bwncath, Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog, Brigyn, Fleur de Lys, Steve Eaves, Yr Ods and Dafydd Iwan.

Daf is fully insured and he has his own PA system ready made for gigs wherever he may be required. He is hard-working, flexible, dependable and trustworthy.

Where and how often do you rehearse?

At home usually – once or twice a week.

How would you best describe yourself?

Solo acoustic – combination of upbeat, catchy songs with a few ballads thrown in.

Do you have any interesting stories about your group?

I have a couple – when supporting the legendary Dafydd Iwan in Aberystwyth, I ended up in the bar next door with him sharing stories and having a drink with him. A very down to earth and humble man.

The second story relates to a gig I played in Talsarnau (near Harlech) – I was playing a festival and the stage was an open lorry. It had been raining heavily the night before and it was windy during the gig so all of a sudden water blows / tips onto the stage where the electronics are. I end up moving my mic and cables to the other side of the stage and finish my set there (no further hitches thankfully!)
