Biography:

Children at City Junior School have a passion for singing, and this enthusiasm is reflected in the school’s vibrant music programme. The newly formed Gray’s Inn Singers choir is named after the school’s location, nestled in the heart of the City of London. The choir consists of 51 experienced choristers, aged 9 to 11, who began rehearsing together in September 2024. They rehearse twice a week, enjoying a rich variety of music across different genres.

With 250 children participating in one of the four choirs at City Junior School, singing plays an integral part in the pupils’ daily lives. In addition to regular rehearsals, Gray’s Inn Singers perform frequently in the local community. Recent performances include a stunning Children’s Opera of The Pied Piper by Christopher Bowers-Broadbent, staged at the historic Gray’s Inn Hall, and a highly anticipated Summer Concert at the beautiful Temple Church.

Conductor

Gray’s Inn Singers is conducted by Cassandra White, who was appointed Singing Lead in 2023. A graduate of Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Cassandra taught singing at The Purcell School before embarking on her choral conducting career. She has a wealth of experience working with young voices, both in the classroom and on the concert platform.

Cassandra’s achievements include founding the award-winning Canons Choir, which was selected for Let the Peoples Sing and featured on BBC Radio 3’s The Choir in 2014. She directed Bax Choir for six years, leading them to numerous accolades, including being finalists in the televised BBC Songs of Praise Young Choir of the Year competition in 2019, and crowned ‘Children’s Choir of the World’ at Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod 2019. Cassandra was also awarded the Conductor’s Prize for her inspirational work with young choirs. In addition to her role at City Junior School, Cassandra is the Musical Director of Caritas Harmony Ladies’ Choir and maintains a busy career as a conductor, performer, and educator.
