Biography:
Peterborough Voices is a female voice choir based is Peterborough, England.
Directed by William Prideaux, the choir welcomes singers with differing levels of previous experience and gives women of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to come together to create something wonderful. Their repertoire is diverse and wide-ranging, with particular emphasis on contemporary music by female composers.
Activities
Peterborough Voices have collaborated with world-renowned performance partners including the King’s Singers, the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as well as performing and competing in Spain, Italy, Latvia, Portugal and across the UK.
In 2023 Peterborough Voices hosted their first Peterborough International Choral Festival celebrating the female experience of choral singing, female composers and the quality and ambition of women’s singing internationally. Peterborough Voices’ phenomenally successful pop-up project Sing for Life has been described as ‘empowering’ and ‘life changing’ and has introduced thousands of local women – including many current members of the choir – to the benefits and joys of group singing, raising many thousands of pounds for charity in the process.
Together with Peterborough Male Voice Choir, Peterborough Youth Choir and Peterborough Community Chorus, Peterborough Voices is part of the Peterborough Sings! music education charity which supports over 200 singing members as well as an extensive programme of community outreach work which includes delivering the Arts Council England-funded Peterborough Singing Strategy across local primary schools.
Achievements
Peterborough Voices won the Choir Prize winners Challenge at the 2022 Huddersfield Mrs Sunderland festival. Their pop-up project Sing for Life has been described as ’empowering’ and ‘life changing’. They also collaborated with world-class musicians including the King`s Singers, the Central Band of the RAF, the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, performing and competing in Spain, Italy and UK.
Recent highlights include performing a programme of British classics with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in a sell-out concert at Peterborough Cathedral and taking part – with choirs from across the world – in the Interkultur Lisbon Sings competition, where they were awarded their second gold diploma.
