Biography:
The Toronto Northern Lights, or TNL as the group is colloquially known, is Canada’s premiere Barbershop Harmony chorus.
Formed in 1998, they have represented the Province of Ontario numerous times at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International competitions, winning 15 medals including the coveted gold in 2013.
TNL’s theatrical style has earned them many fans in the a cappella world, and the group has performed in Sweden, Germany, the UK, and China, as well as across North America.
TNL has been a category winner in the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs, and in 2018 were honoured with the Slaight Music SING! Toronto Legacy Award.
TNL’s members range in age from 20 to 80, and they come from a variety of musical backgrounds and experience. All are lovers of the close harmony found in a cappella popular music, and they enjoy a repertoire that ranges from American Idol to American Songbook, Broadway to Bublé, and Doo Wop to Vocal Jazz.
Musical Director: Andrew Carolan
Born and raised in Australia, Toronto Northern Lights Musical Director Andrew Carolan has extensive experience in the a cappella world as a singer, arranger, educator, coach, and judge of a cappella competitions around North America and the globe.
Andrew brings a positive, high-energy, and motivational leadership style to the group. He is passionate about leading others to personal growth through music, having seen firsthand the positive impact barbershop music and related artforms can have on our lives and communities.
