Symphonic Spectacular at Llangollen Eisteddfod

Grammy award-winning American composer, Christopher Tin, returned to Llangollen last night [WEDNESDAY 5TH JULY] to lead a performance of his renowned 2009 song cycle, Calling All Dawns.

Communicating the message of global unity, the first half of the concert presented audiences with a spectrum of music from symphonic overtures to video game fantasies. The second half of the concert was a special performance of Tin’s song-cycle Calling All Dawns, which included his iconic composition for computer game Civilisation IV, Baba Yetu.

Welsh Refugee Council Nominated for International Peace Prize

Organisation nominated for the Rotary International Peace Award, which recognises peace initiatives both in the UK and internationally

An organisation that works to empower and protect refugees in Wales has been nominated for an international peace prize.

The Welsh Refugee Council has been nominated for the Rotary International Peace Award, for its work promoting tolerance and respect towards refugees, as well as empowering refugees and asylum seekers to build new lives in Wales. (more…)

Knight at the opera’s amazing year

Sir Bryn Terfel has described how being knighted by the Queen was one of the proudest days of his life – along with the birth of his first daughter..

The globally renowned bass baritone was speaking ahead of his appearance at Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod where he’ll be starring in a special production of the classic opera Tosca on Tuesday, July 4.

He revealed he even persuaded Buckingham Palace to give him an extra ticket so that his three sons and his fiancee Hannah Stone could all attend the ceremony.

Mega prize attracts record number of the world’s best young singers

Search for Voice of the Future Competition entrants heats up as prize fund increases to record high.

Twenty-four of the world’s best young singers are flocking to North Wales to compete for a prestigious new international prize.

Competitors from as far afield as Switzerland, the Philippines, the USA and China will be competing for the title of International Voice of the Future at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on Thursday, July 6.

The record number of entrants has been attracted by the boost given to the prize fund by the arts-loving Pendine Park care organisation and the Sir Bryn Terfel Foundation.

Llangollen Eisteddfod a family affair for Wrexham residents

Mother and daughter from Wrexham to celebrate 70 years of involvement in International Eisteddfod with special performance

Wrexham residents and mother-daughter duo Helen Hayward and Betty Jones will be celebrating a life-long devotion to the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod this year by performing in the Celebration Chorus on Wednesday 5th July – the first time they have performed together.

Original 1947 Choir to Join Voices with Fron and Rhos for 70th Anniversary Concert

Original 1947 International Eisteddfod Competitors, Colne Valley Male Voice Choir to join forces with the formidable Froncysyllte (Fron) and Rhosllanerchrugog (Rhos) male voice choirs for the festival’s 70th Anniversary Opening Concert

A male voice choir that performed at the first ever International Eisteddfod in 1947 will sing alongside two of Wales’ most prolific male voice choirs at the event’s landmark 70th Anniversary opening concert on Monday 3rd July.

Grammy award-winning composer visits Llangollen

The International Eisteddfod welcomes globally renowned composer, Christopher Tin, to Llangollen

Grammy award-winning American composer, Christopher Tin, made his first ever visit to Llangollen on Monday 10th April, ahead of his performance at the International Eisteddfod’s 70th anniversary festival in the summer.

Tin, whose composition for the iconic video game Civilisation IV Baba Yetu scooped the first ever Grammy for a game theme, was greeted by the International Eisteddfod’s officers and members of The Llangollen Celebration Chorus. He was then given a tour of the Royal International Pavilion, where he will perform on Wednesday 5th July.  (more…)
