Academi Heddwch Cymru is Wales’s national peace institute. It’s the first of its kind in the four nations of the United Kingdom. Through research, education and engagement, we help people contribute to a fair, just and non-violent future.
With the themes of peace and reconciliation at the core of Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, the festival works with Academi Heddwch Cymru not only to ensure the continuity of such heritage, but to make peacebuilding accessible today through the festival’s annual Peace Lecture and its Young Peacemakers Awards ceremony, during which young people across Wales are celebrated for their contributions to peace.
We are delighted to announce that this year’s Peace Lecture will be given by Academi Heddwch Chair, Rt. Revd. and Rt. Hon. Dr Rowan Williams. Dr Williams was the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury (2002-2012) and previously the Bishop of Monmouth (1991-2002) and Archbishop of Wales (1999-2002). Throughout his various roles, Dr Williams has been a strong ambassador for peace and reconciliation through his advocacy of interfaith dialogue, conflict resolution and social justice. In 2021, Dr Williams was made Academi Heddwch Cymru’s first Chair. Upon taking up his role as Chair, Dr Williams said: “Wales has a long tradition of international vision and of commitment to social and international reconciliation. It is a delight and an honour to be part of this new venture, which seeks to give new life to this tradition at a time when our world is in such desperate need of models for collaborative and creative peacemaking”.
