‘UK’s Most Multilingual Choir’ to Mark International Festival’s 70th Anniversary

Calling A choir of 80 amateur singers is set to become the UK’s most multilingual chorus after learning an eight-language performance from scratch in just 10 rehearsals.

The ambitious ‘Celebration Chorus’ will perform Calling All Dawns, by renowned composer and video game music composer Christopher Tin, at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod’s 70th anniversary festival, as part of it’s evening concert on Wednesday 5th June 2017.  

The piece features 12 songs in distinct languages including Farsi, Sanskrit, Swahili, Japanese, Irish, and Maori, eight of which have been taken on by the talented amateur choir.

Final rehearsals for the multilingual performance underway on official ‘birthday’ of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod [Sunday 11th June].

Grammy award-winning composer visits Llangollen

The International Eisteddfod welcomes globally renowned composer, Christopher Tin, to Llangollen

Grammy award-winning American composer, Christopher Tin, made his first ever visit to Llangollen on Monday 10th April, ahead of his performance at the International Eisteddfod’s 70th anniversary festival in the summer.

Tin, whose composition for the iconic video game Civilisation IV Baba Yetu scooped the first ever Grammy for a game theme, was greeted by the International Eisteddfod’s officers and members of The Llangollen Celebration Chorus. He was then given a tour of the Royal International Pavilion, where he will perform on Wednesday 5th July.  (more…)

International Eisteddfod seeks talented singers for 70th anniversary Celebration Chorus

Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod to revive established tradition and create a choir of local talent to celebrate 70th anniversary.

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is calling for passionate singers to join a special ‘Celebration Chorus’ for the 2017 festival.

In anticipation of the 70th anniversary of the International Eisteddfod, a ‘Celebration Chorus’ of singers is being created, with an open session for people interested in participating, being held at St John’s Church, Llangollen, on Saturday 28th January.

Sir Bryn Terfel and Gregory Porter to star in International Eisteddfod’s 70th anniversary concert series

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is set to celebrate its 70th anniversary milestone with a star-studded concert line up featuring performances from renowned bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, iconic American Jazz, Soul and Gospel singer, Gregory Porter, vocal harmony group, The Overtones and the Only Boys Aloud Academi, as well as a whole host of global dance and musical talent.
