Biography: Formed 20 years ago from the male voices of renowned mixed voices choir Côrdydd, BBT first came to prominence when they won the male voice category at the televised Côr Cymru competition on S4C in 2009. They’ve gone on to win the category twice since then, most recently in 2024.
The 30 or so members are all Welsh speakers or understand Welsh. The weekly practice is a great chance for the singers to use the language in a social song. Although based in Cardiff, the members come originally from all over Wales as well as from the capital itself so there’s a healthy mix of Welsh language accents and colourful idioms to be heard every week!
They are seasoned competitors at local Eisteddfodau and at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. They have also travelled to choral competitions Truro, Cheltenham, and the Isle of Man where they have returned with a number of pieces of silverware including the best choir at Cheltenham in 2023 and Male Voice winners at the IOM choral festival in 2025.
Richard the conductor annually challenges the choir members with new pieces to see how they sound and many
of these become competition pieces. All this without losing the important social element of choral
singing through the medium of Welsh.
