Biography:

Bulgarian Folklore Club, MERAKLII, was founded in June 2014 by Art director-choreographer Ventsislav Shopov and assistant director-correspondent Margarita Boyadzhieva. The dancers of BFC MERAKLII are an enthusiastic team aiming to preserve and recreate Bulgarian folklore and traditions in their true appearance by attracting and warming the hearts of all who love dancing. In 2022, MERAKLII expanded its activities by opening its first children’s dance group to help nurture young talent and ensuring Bulgarian folklore is carried to the next generation.

Over the years, BFC MERAKLII has been featured in numerous international cultural events and festivals across Spain, France, Greece, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom. BFC MERAKLII is equally committed to community and charitable causes, they have supported a number of events including Angels in Pink (assisting women with breast cancer in Bulgaria), With Song and Dance for Tsveti and a major cultural fundraising event at Millfield Theatre in partnership with Kids Care (raising funds for the first sensory room for children in the Gotse Delchev region of Bulgaria).

Today, MERAKLII continues to celebrate and promote Bulgarian folklore with pride, dedication, and passion. “Together we can do more,” and even far from our homeland, we keep the Bulgarian spirit vibrant and alive.
