ABOUT US

Every summer since 1947 Llangollen has staged one of the world’s most inspirational cultural festivals. Each year around 4,000 performers and over ten times as many visitors converge on this small Welsh town to sing and dance for a week in a unique and joyful combination of competition, performance, and international peace and friendship. Over nearly eight decades some 400,000 competitors from every continent have graced the Eisteddfod’s field, pavilion and stages, bringing at least 200 different cultures to the beautiful Dee Valley. Its concerts have featured such international stars as Alicia Markova, Yehudi Menuhin, Angela Gheorghiu, Luciano Pavarotti, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Joan Baez and Bryan Adams.

A charity led and mostly run by volunteers, the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod brings forward the best qualities of modern Wales, and shares them with the world. In 2004 it was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
