Llangollen get ready to be bowled over…

Texan pop punk legends Bowling For Soup and folk punk royalty Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls are teaming up next summer and they are heading to North Wales.

The two genre-defying musical powerhouses and long-time friends are joining forces for the first time ever for a run of dates across the country with their Bowl My Bones tour headlining TK Maxx Presents Live At Llangollen Pavilion on Friday July 3.

One of rocks’ most unlikely friendships began years ago, sparked by Bowling For Soup frontman Jaret Reddick’s admiration for Frank Turner’s music. In more recent years the two became good friends, even hosting a weekly live stream together during the COVID pandemic. Now, after years of fan requests, the tour they’ve been hoping for is finally happening.

Frank is very much looking forward to hitting the road with his long-time friends: “I love summer, I love touring, and I really love Bowling For Soup. So let’s cut to the chase and do them all at the same time! These shows are going to be a lot of fun, I’m honoured to be part of the adventure.”

While the feeling is more than mutual from Bowling For Soup’s Jaret: “Discovering Frank Turner’s music happened at an important time in my life. I needed it, but I didn’t know how much. Now, many years later, I get to call him friend, and touring with him and The Sleeping Souls in his home country of the UK seems unreal to me. I think these are going to be special Summer nights that none of us will forget! Stoked!!!”

The announcement of the tour follows swiftly on from the news of Bowling For Soup teaming up Wales’ viral sensations Punk Rock Factory to release a brand-new version of Endless Possibility featuring alt-rock legends Wheatus, the main theme song from video game Sonic Unleashed. The song was originally written by Jaret and has become one of the most beloved songs from the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise ever, with fans continuing to post about it, stream it, and cover it more than 15 years later.

Bowling For Soup have spent the past 30 years proving they’re not just a band — they’re a guaranteed good time. Known for their infectious anthems, off-the-cuff comedy and massive singalongs, their live shows feel less like concerts and more like backyard parties with thousands of friends.

Their UK breakthrough came in 2000 with The Bitch Song, followed by the GRAMMY-nominated hit Girl All The Bad Guys Want, 1985 and High School Never Ends — tracks that helped cement their place in pop-punk history.

Frank Turner is one of the UK’s most successful and beloved artists, with a career built on relentless touring, heartfelt songwriting and a deep connection to his fans. Since going solo in 2005, Turner has released 10 studio albums and played more than 3,000 live shows with his long-time backing band The Sleeping Souls.

It’s Not The End Of The World — it’s another chance to see the Furries!

Tickets flew out within hours across the country when Super Furry Animals announced their first live dates in 10 years. Now, fans of Wales’ most offbeat musical icons have another chance to catch the psychedelic legends back in action when they headline TK Maxx Presents Live at Llangollen Pavilion on Thursday July 2.

They will be joined on the night by two very special guests – the explosive five-piece punk band Panic Shack and the eccentric psychedelic six-piece Melin Melyn.

Formed in Cardiff in 1995, Super Furry Animals — Huw Bunford, Cian Ciarán, Daf Ieuan, Guto Pryce and Gruff Rhys — quickly became one of the most inventive and beloved bands of the era. Their debut album Fuzzy Logic set the tone for a career defined by surreal visuals, genre-bending soundscapes and unforgettable live shows. The band frequently grabbed headlines with their unusual promotional tactics, including the famous Super Furry Animals Tank, giant inflatable bears and Yeti costumes.

Their headline date in Llangollen joins sold-out shows in Cardiff and Llandudno as part of the already sold-out Supacabra Tour — a long-awaited reunion celebrating 30 years of invention, mischief and sonic exploration, alongside the 20th-anniversary reissue of Love Kraft.

With a nine-album catalogue of vibrant hits and courageous, off-piste sonic cuts, Super Furry Animals remain devoted to their singular mission of delivering unfiltered joy to the hearts of the Furry family.

The iconic Welsh trailblazers have grown a significant and loyal following since bursting onto the music scene, proving that three decades of creativity and experimentation have only strengthened their legendary status.

Joining Super Furry Animals in Llangollen will be special guests Panic Shack, a sharp-witted five-piece punk outfit from Cardiff whose DIY spirit and electrifying live shows have made them one of Wales’ most exciting new bands. Formed in 2018 by Sarah Harvey, Meg Fretwell, Romi Lawrence, Emily Smith and Nick Williams, the group set out to prove music isn’t a members-only club. Their sound – collar-grabbing punk missives that walk the line between smoking-area banter and a restless rage for the world we live in – refuses to sit politely. With wit, grit and a fearless sense of identity, Panic Shack bring a riotous energy that’s impossible to ignore.

Opening the night will be fellow Cardiffians Melin Melyn — a genre-defying six-piece whose surreal storytelling, kaleidoscopic soundscapes, and wildly theatrical live shows weave together surf-rock, country, prog, psychedelia, and more. Their inventive approach has earned them critical acclaim and a devoted, ever-growing following.

One of the UK’s best loved pop stars Rick Astley is heading to North Wales for a joyous headline show next summer. The Never Gonna Give You Up hitmaker will headline TK Maxx presents Live at Llangollen Pavilion on Wednesday June 24 when he will be joined on the night by very special guests Lottery Winners.

Rick Astley leapt to fame in 1987 with the era-defining smash single Never Gonna Give You Up, followed by hits including Together Forever and Whenever You Need Somebody.

After stepping away from the spotlight for several years, audiences in Llangollen were treated to a special night in 2011 when he performed during the opening of that years Eisteddfod. Then in 2016, he celebrated his 50th birthday with a triumphant return to the top of the charts with his hit album 50.

And the still-boyish singer, songwriter and producer has stayed at the top of his game ever since, enjoying collaborations with the likes of Foo Fighters and Blossoms, show-stealing sets at Glastonbury and a number two chart position for 2023 album Are We There Yet? – contributing to more than 40million record sales worldwide.

Joining him in Llangollen will be indie pop band Lottery Winners. Earlier this year the band racked up their second Number 1 album with the release of fourth studio album KOKO.

And 2025 has continued at speed as not only have the band performed some of their biggest headline shows to date this year, they also spent the summer on the road supporting Robbie Williams on his UK and Europe stadium tour.

Scottish legends Deacon Blue are set to light up summer 2026 as they bring their signature sound and electrifying live tour to Llangollen.

The Real Gone Kid and Dignity hitmakers will headline TK Maxx presents Live at Llangollen Pavilion on Saturday July 4 as part of The Great Western Road Trip Rolls On tour.

Performing their biggest hits alongside songs from their latest album The Great Western Road, Deacon Blue will be joined on the night by very special guests Lightning Seeds.

Celebrating 40 years since Ross and Dougie Vipond first formed the band, Deacon Blue’s Llangollen headline show will be a career-spanning night of hits including Chocolate Girl, Wages Day and Fergus Sings The Blues — alongside highlights from The Great Western Road, their most successful studio release in more than three decades, reaching Number 3 in the UK and topping the Scottish Album Chart.

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is delighted back Wrexham’s bid for UK City of Culture 2029. Wrexham has announced its intention to bid once again for the title of UK City of Culture 2029, following its outstanding achievement in reaching the final stages of the last competition and finishing as runner-up to Bradford, the winner for 2025.

Morgan Thomas, a Board Director at the Eisteddfod is the Culture Bid Co-ordinator. He has been updating the Eisteddfod Board on the exciting plans. John Gambles, Chair of the Llangollen Eisteddfod said, “This is an exciting time for arts and culture across North East Wales, and I was delighted to attend a recent event supporting Wrexham’s bid on behalf of our Eisteddfod. If successful, Wrexham’s bid to become UK City of Culture would be a true game changer, not just for the city but for the whole region. Many of our volunteers and supporters live in and around Wrexham, so we have everything crossed that our neighbours’ ambition and creativity will be recognised. The Eisteddfod is proud to give its full backing to the bid.”

After a spectacular world premiere that closed this summer’s Big Feastival in front of more than 20,000 fans, Alex James’ Britpop Classical will hit the road for its first ever UK tour next year including a date in Llangollen.

Bringing the biggest hits of the Britpop era to life with the epic scale of a full live orchestra, this one-of-a-kind live experience will headline TK Maxx presents Live at Llangollen Pavilion on Sunday June 28.

Created and performed by Blur bassist and Big Feastival founder Alex James, the show takes the best songs from a golden age of British music: Classic tunes from Blur, Oasis and Pulp to Supergrass and The Verve and performs them in a powerful symphonic format with a live band, and guest vocalists alongside the London Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

Joining James on stage will be an all-star guest line-up including Phil Daniels, Saffron of Republica, and Gary Stringer of Reef, with more names to be announced soon.

CONNECT WITH BRITPOP CLASSICAL 

World-renowned musical theatre star and multi-platinum-selling artist Michael Ball is heading to North Wales next summer to headline the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on Saturday July 11.  

The double Olivier Award-winning, GRAMMY-nominated performer will make his highly anticipated return to the iconic Llangollen Pavilion for the first time in more than 20 years, having last performed there in 2004. Audiences can expect a spectacular, fully seated show celebrating the entertainer’s remarkable career, as part of the traditional Eisteddfod week.

In a video message speaking about his return to Llangollen, Michael Ball said: “I cannot wait to be coming back to Llangollen for the Eisteddfod. Me singing, talking, you providing a welcome in the hillside. I love performing in the Eisteddfod and I’m so honoured to be invited back. I hope you can come and see me there, we’ll have a fabulous night.” 

It has already been revealed that global music icon Emeli Sandé will headline the festival on Friday 10 July with a spectacular bespoke concert, reimagining her greatest hits and fan favourites in brand-new symphonic arrangements performed live with The Absolute Orchestra. Tickets for that show are on sale now. 

Following a record-breaking 2025, organisers anticipate 2026 to be the Eisteddfod’s biggest and most exciting year yet. For the first time, the iconic Choir of the World final will take place on the Sunday evening, bringing the historic festival to a close— a spectacular climax to the week’s performances and competitions. 

Ahead of the closing night, Michael Ball will light up the Pavillion on Saturday evening. A performer who has been at the forefront of musical theatre for more than four decades, Michael Ball is a beloved household star. He originated the roles of Marius in Les Misérables and Edna Turnblad in Hairspray on the West End — the latter earning him the first of two Olivier Awards for Best Actor in a Musical. His illustrious career spans many of the most iconic shows of all time, including The Phantom of the Opera, Chess, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and his second Olivier Award-winning turn in the title role of Sweeney Todd. 

His extraordinary career extends far beyond the stage, spanning radio, television, and the recording studio. In 2024, Michael became the latest presenter of Love Songs on BBC Radio 2, bringing his signature warmth and charm to the long-running Sunday morning favourite. On screen, he’s a familiar and much-loved presence — from The Michael Ball Show on ITV1 to his travelogue series Wonderful Wales on Channel 5, and a special Easter Sunday programme for the BBC earlier this year. 

Alongside his stage and screen success, Michael has also enjoyed a chart-topping recording career, selling millions of albums and performing to sold-out arenas around the world. In 2007, he made history as the first musical theatre star to headline a solo concert at the BBC Proms with An Evening with Michael Ball at the Royal Albert Hall. 

His long-standing collaboration with close friend Alfie Boe has become a phenomenon in its own right. Together, they’ve released six hit albums — including four UK No.1s — and sold more than 1.6 million records, earning two Classic BRIT Awards and fronting three ITV specials. Michael is also a bestselling author, with his debut novel The Empire and follow-up A Backstage Betrayal both hitting the Sunday Times charts, alongside his memoir Different Aspects.  

Fans in Llangollen can expect an unforgettable night featuring songs from Michael’s best-loved roles, timeless show tunes, and career highlights that have made him one of the UK’s most cherished entertainers.

Founded in 1947, the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is one of the world’s most vibrant celebrations of music, dance, and international friendship. Held annually in the heart of North East Wales, the week-long festival welcomes thousands of performers and visitors from across the globe, uniting cultures through creativity and competition. In  2026 the festivities will end on Sunday July 12 with the Choir of the World marking the culmination of the Eisteddfod’s competitive schedule and include the presentation of the coveted Pavarotti Trophy, named in honour of the legendary tenor who sang in Llangollen twice: first in 1955 with his hometown choir from Modena, and again in a landmark solo concert in 1995. 

Multi-platinum-selling artist Tom Grennan will bring his electrifying live show to North Wales next summer as part of a run of headline dates.

The chart-topping BRIT and Ivor Novello-nominated star will head to TK Maxx presents Live at Llangollen Pavilion on Sunday July 5.

Today’s announcement follows a period of immense success for Tom Grennan who celebrated landing his third consecutive UK No. 1 album in August with the release of Everywhere I Went Led Me To Where I Didn’t Want To Be. His unstoppable ascent has seen him sell more than 120,000 tickets in the last 12 months including his recent sold-out Grennan ’25 arena tour.

Grennan burst onto the music scene in 2016 as the guest vocalist on the Chase & Status track All Goes Wrong, before stepping into the spotlight with his gold-certified debut album Lighting Matches, in 2018. Tom Grennan joins Billy Ocean, Pete Tong’s Ibiza Classics and David Gray among the first headline announcements for TK Maxx presents Live at Llangollen Pavilion 2026, which is presented as part of an ongoing partnership with the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and Live Nation promoters Cuffe and Taylor.

In a world-exclusive, the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is set to shine in 2026 with a one-night-only orchestral spectacular, starring global music icon Emeli Sandé.

On Friday July 10, the powerhouse performer will take centre stage in a bespoke concert created exclusively for the historic festival. Making her highly anticipated Llangollen debut, the multi-award-winning artist will reimagine her greatest hits and fan favourites in brand-new symphonic arrangements, performed live with The Absolute Orchestra.

The Scottish superstar is the first headline act announced for next summer’s festival, leading a fully seated, specially curated show that continues Llangollen’s tradition of world-class artistic innovation. It follows the success of 2025’s orchestral collaboration between KT Tunstall and the Absolute Orchestra — a standout moment of the summer that sparked a new Eisteddfod tradition of bold, genre-defying symphonic performances. Friends of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod can access pre-sale tickets from 10am tomorrow via llangollen.net and tickets go on sale at 9am on Saturday.

Speaking about heading to Llangollen, Emeli said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be performing at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod for the very first time next summer. It’s such a unique and powerful celebration of music.

“I can’t wait to perform with the incredibly talented musicians of The Absolute Orchestra, which makes the occasion even more special!”

Emeli Sandé burst onto the music scene in 2012 with her debut album Our Version of Events, which featured timeless hits such as Next to Me, Read All About It (Part III), and Clown. The record became the UK’s biggest-selling album of the year, earning critical acclaim and praise from legendary artists such as Madonna and Alicia Keys.

Since then, Sandé has continued to evolve artistically, with her acclaimed albums Let’s Say For Instance (2022) and How Were We to Know (2023) highlighting her emotional depth and musical versatility.

Raised in rural Aberdeenshire by a Zambian father and working-class Cumbrian mother, Sandé grew from a shy teenager into one of the UK’s most influential and celebrated voices. Her emotionally charged performances and soaring vocals have earned her multiple BRIT Awards, an Ivor Novello Award, and an MBE for services to music — securing her place among Britain’s most decorated musical talents.

Joining her on stage in Llangollen will be The Absolute Orchestra, conducted and arranged by the Eisteddfod’s Artistic Director Dave Danford. Renowned for pushing creative boundaries and pioneering cross-genre collaborations with artists such as KT Tunstall and Kosheen, the orchestra will blend soul, pop, and symphonic brilliance into a truly unforgettable night of live music

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod has announced the extension of Dave Danford’s contract as Artistic Director, as the world-renowned festival marks its 79th year in 2026.

Appointed to the role in 2023, Dave has led a creative transformation of the festival’s profile and programming — curating an eclectic mix that spans from West End theatre concerts to bespoke orchestral collaborations including the much-acclaimed KT Tunstall concert with the Absolute Orchestra this year, which he arranged, orchestrated and conducted.

Dave’s connection with the Eisteddfod stretches back to 2010 when he performed in an evening concert as a percussionist with the Cory Band, and continued in 2012, when he first collaborated with previous Music Director Eilir Owen Griffiths on the production of evening concerts. Since then, he has played an integral role in the festival’s artistic evolution in a variety of capacities and, alongside a portfolio career which has recently involved work with artists such as Dua Lipa and Reye, has led a resurgence in the festival’s profile and direction.

With the 2026 programme soon to be unveiled, Dave and the team are already looking ahead to the Eisteddfod’s 80th anniversary celebrations in 2027 — a milestone expected to honour and elevate one of Wales’ most cherished cultural institutions.
