Since 1949, young people of Llangollen have presented a message of peace and goodwill to the children of the world from the stage of the International Eisteddfod.
Today, the message is delivered during Children’s Day, which is attended by large groups of pupils from schools across the region. Urdd Gobaith Cymru first established the tradition of an annual Message of Peace and Goodwill in 1922, and the Eisteddfod initially echoed that year’s Urdd message, delivered from the stage in both English and Welsh during the Saturday President’s Day session by a single teenager dressed in Welsh costume. The format evolved in the 1980s, becoming part of the new Children’s Day programme and working with local schools to create a new message each year.
