Freelance Funding Specialist

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod has a proud 76-year history of bringing global communities together through music, dance and creativity to promote peace and understanding.  The Eisteddfod is acknowledged as one of the foremost world festivals and has even been nominated for the Nobel Prize for Peace.  Over 75 years it has attracted over 400,000 competitors bringing over 140 cultures to the Dee Valley. We are now seeking a freelance fundraiser or fundraising team to join our team. In this role, the fundraiser will use expert communication skills and a keen sense of initiative to work with our Fundraising Group to spot grant opportunities, fundraising opportunities, develop relationships with potential donors, and develop fundraising campaigns. By coordinating events, writing proposals, and recruiting and leading volunteers, the fundraiser will help hone the abilities of our volunteer team in negotiating, proposal and grant application writing, and relationship management while moving us closer to our financial goals.

The ideal candidate will be motivated, professional, organised and have a knack of maximising opportunities. We’re looking for someone who believes in the mission and ethos of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and has exceptional drive for furthering our grant success and fundraising efforts as well as strategising and delivering on new ones.

Objectives of this role

  • Promote awareness of the organisation’s mission and work
  • Spot and develop new fundraising opportunities
  • Develop a fundraising strategy and guidelines to grow new income streams
  • Cultivate a network of dedicated donors and volunteers through an individual giving strategy
  • Plan fundraising initiatives to help the organisation meet financial goals
  • Targeting and management of Sponsors
  • Ensure major donors are satisfied and kept in the loop
  • Improve our ability to identify and achieve grant funding

Responsibilities

  • Research individuals, corporations, and foundations that are interested in gift giving / partnership work
  • Effectively convey the organisation’s mission, vision, and programs to potential donors
  • Write grant applications and fundraising proposals
  • Strategise and successfully execute fundraising campaigns
  • Organise fundraising events while overseeing teams of volunteers
  • Manage a budget and track whether goals are being met

Required skills and qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in fundraising, sales, or marketing
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate colleagues and volunteers
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Passion for research
  • Ability to successfully balance priorities while managing multiple tasks and planning big events

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Welsh Speaker
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, business, public relations, or related field
  • Certification, diploma, or similar qualification in fundraising
  • Competence with donor management systems
  • Successful experience in writing grant proposals, press releases, and fundraising letters
  • Confidence in public speaking
  • Legal or accounting experience a plus

The Fee for this work will be £300 per day for 66 days, to be worked until the end of the contract on 1 October 2024. The majority of working days will be expected to be prior to the Eisteddfod in July and attendance on site throughout the festival will be expected. Travel and accommodation costs are included within the daily fee.

The Board will welcome alternative suggestions to the above fee structure and proposals for innovative ways of working.
