New Jersey Youth Chorus

Biography: The New Jersey Youth Chorus, founded in 1992, is an auditioned choral program for children in grades three through to twelve. The heart of their mission is to provide exceptional choral music education and performance experiences, fostering expression, artistry and growth. Coriste, NJYC’s young women’s ensemble, has been a featured choir at the National Conferences of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association and the Organization of American Kodaly Educators, as well as the 2008, 2012, and 2016 American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division Conferences. They have participated in joint performances with ensembles such as the Drew University Chorale and Monmouth Civic Choir, worked with renowned clinicians like Jerry Blackstone, Rollo Dilworth, and Zimfira Poloz, and toured to domestic and international destinations, including Chicago, Hawaii, Canada, Ireland, UK, Austria and Hungary. In addition, as part of the organization’s “Kids for Kids” philanthropic mission, Coriste has performed for charities such as the American Cancer Society, the Greg Wolf Fund, the Matthew Larson Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Autism Speaks, and Team Campbell, and produced and distributed a CD, entitled Stand Together, Music of Hope and Healing, to local patients fighting cancer. Past highlights also include singing America the Beautiful with Queen Latifah at Super Bowl XLVIII and concerts with Ronan Tynan.
