Tees Valley Youth Choir is one of the premier ensembles at Tees Valley Music Service and is a mixed choir for students in school years 7 – 13. The repertoire is varied allowing members to explore music from all eras and styles. The choir members give their own concerts each term in local venues, and also perform in some of the region’s most exciting venues including Durham and Ripon Cathedrals and Sage Gateshead.
In 2014, Tees Valley Youth Choir were invited to sing on the Children in Need charity single God Only Knows where they sang with 27 musical legends including Sir Elton John, Pharrell Williams, Chris Martin, Stevie Wonder and The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson.
Tees Valley Youth Choir regularly reach the finals of the National Festival of Music for Youth and BBC Choir of the Year, and have performed across Europe.
Members of the choir also form Tees Valley Youth Chamber Choir who undertake private engagements that aren’t appropriate for the large-scale choir. Highlights include a performance for the Consul General of Japan and the Lord Lieutenant of Darlington, Durham, Hartlepool and Stockton at Wynyard Hall.
In 2016-2017 the choir will be taking part in lots of exciting events including two performances of Handel’s Messiah, one of which as part of the Scratch Youth Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall and the second with all aspects of the work being tackled by Tees Valley Youth Choir alone. Other events include a performance of Bach Magnificat in D, Handel Coronation Anthems and participation in the North East Choirs Festival at Durham Cathedral.
