Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod to revive established tradition and create a choir of local talent to celebrate 70th anniversary.
The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is calling for passionate singers to join a special ‘Celebration Chorus’ for the 2017 festival.
In anticipation of the 70th anniversary of the International Eisteddfod, a ‘Celebration Chorus’ of singers is being created, with an open session for people interested in participating, being held at St John’s Church, Llangollen, on Saturday 28th January.
The ‘Celebration Chorus’ will be taking part in the International Eisteddfod itself, performing ‘Calling All Dawns’ by Christopher Tin on Wednesday 5th July, to a live audience in the famous International Pavilion.
Music Director of the festival, Eilir Griffiths, said: “The ‘Celebration Chorus’ has been a highlight of the International Eisteddfod in previous years and we’re excited to continue this proud tradition as we celebrate our 70th anniversary.
“Every year the support from the local community is overwhelming and it’s fantastic to see people actively getting involved in the Eisteddfod.
“We encourage anyone with a passion for singing to join us at rehearsals and be part of a special performance of this song-cycle which, with its message of unity, is entirely appropriate for the Eisteddfod stage. Entry to the ‘Celebration Chorus’ is open to anyone who is able to commit to the rehearsal schedule but previous choral experience would be an advantage.
“So, whether you’re a soprano, alto, tenor or bass – or even if you’re not sure what you are – we need you!”
Spaces in the ‘Celebration Chorus’ are limited so selection for the choir will be held at St John’s Church, Abbey Road, Llangollen, LL20 8SW on Saturday 28th January from 10 – 1pm.
