Our pupils are based at Ysgol Gwersyllt CP near Wrexham. Upon reviewing our school’s music provision within Curriculum for Wales Expressive Arts, we identified music had taken second place to other priorities for too long. We have forged a link with Wrexham Sounds, where we went to record ‘Summer of ’69’ last year, and this year went busking in Chester, singing a collection of songs including original Welsh language translations of Lili Marlene and Pokarekare Ana, songs learnt in a recently formed music club and some songs which reflect the musical theatre interests of pupils. The children raised £236.35 (later topped up to £280) which covered the cost of a class trip to Bitesize Youth Theatre) within less than an hour of singing. We would love to contribute to the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen, ideally to perform a selection of our songs, whether in a tent on the field, in the pavilion, or in a venue in Llangollen.
