Liverpool’s Cavern Club returns to Llangollen

North Wales’ week-long summer festival, the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, has announced that the world’s most famous music club, Liverpool’s Cavern Club, will return this year.

After debuting its first ever pop-up stage last year at the International Eisteddfod, the Liverpool-based club is returning to entertain audiences at the festival’s finale party, called Llanfest, on Sunday 7th July.

Director at The Cavern Club, Jon Keats, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod for a second year, following on from the phenomenal reception in 2018.

“The unique energy and atmosphere within the festival is fantastic and something we’re delighted to be a part of again.”

Llanfest is a relatively new addition to the festival and was introduced to reach out to new audiences and attract festival-goers from across the country. The Cavern Club stage will reflect the upbeat party vibe of Llanfest with energetic renditions of songs by legendary artists including The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Oasis and Travis.

The Cavern Club will help the festival’s crowds get into the party spirit before the headliners take to the main Pavilion stage. This year’s joint headliners will be Scottish rock band, The Fratellis, and Merseyside’s favourite rock band, The Coral, they follow the huge success of legendary indie rockers, Kaiser Chiefs, who raised the roof of the Royal International Pavilion at the festival finale last year.

Music Director of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, Dr Edward-Rhys Harry, said: “The Llangollen Eisteddfod aims to unite communities from across the globe together through music and dance, in the spirit of international goodwill, friendship and peace.

“The Cavern Club’s international presence will elevate this message even further and we couldn’t be more proud to be collaborating with them for a second year running. We’re delighted to be experiencing a more contemporary genre of music at the festival, whilst also aligning with the core, traditional message of the Eisteddfod.”

The Cavern Club pop-up stage is at Llanfest, Llangollen on Sunday 7 July 2019 from 2pm.  Tickets available from Llangollen.net or 01978 862001.
