Miriam Kitchener is a percussionist, educator and animateur based in Birmingham. She graduated with Distinction from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2018, with a Masters degree in Percussion Performance. Since then, she has gone on to perform regularly with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Opera North, The Royal Shakespeare Company and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.
As well as having a varied career as a performer, Miriam is also passionate about providing inclusive music education for young people and works extensively as an educator for In Harmony Telford and Stoke-on-Trent where she is the Assistant Project Manager as well as being Head of Percussion at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s Junior School. Miriam is also a tutor for the National Youth Orchestra and is passionate about working with children with SEND, having obtained a PGCert in Music and Children with Special Abilities and Needs from the University of Roehampton in 2025. Other education projects have included working with Opera North, The City of London Sinfonia and Welsh National Opera.
