The first full day of competitions is not to be missed as the Junior, Senior and Youth choirs take centre stage. Winners of these competitions will go through to compete in the evening concert for the title of Young Choir of the World. We are also joined by Children’s folk dance groups along with vocal and instrumental solo competitors.

In the Pavilion today:

 

  • Choral: Senior Children’s Choir – This children’s choir competition is for singers aged 12 to 18. They will be singing a contrasting programme of 6 minutes, which will include repertoire by a living composer.

  • Dance: Children’s Traditional Folk-Dance Group – This competition is for groups under the age of 16. They will be showcasing folk dance traditions with a programme for 4 minutes from their own culture. They will have musicians and flag-bearers. Pre-recorded music can also be used for this competition.

  • Choral: Youth Choirs – This youth choir competition is for singers aged 16-25. They will be singing a contrasting programme of 6 minutes, which will include repertoire by a living composer.

  • Solo: International Instrumentalist of the Future (9 – 14) – This instrumental solo competition is for soloists aged 9 to 14 years of age. Soloists will perform a programme of up to 6 minutes of music. The preliminary round will be in the town, and then three soloists will go through to the final on the main stage in the pavilion.

  • Solo: Open Vocal Solo 12-14 – This competition is for singers aged 12 to 14. Soloists will perform a programme of music for 6 minutes. All music will be sung in the original language. The preliminary round will be in the town, and then three soloists will go through to the final on the main stage in the pavilion.

4:30pm Parade of Nations – This is our annual spectacle where participating groups from across the world dance, sing and play their musical instruments as they weave their way through the streets of Llangollen.  Wearing their national costume and flying their flags and banners, the groups process through the streets to the delight of the throngs gathered to welcome them to the town.

Young Choir of the World 7:30pm
As a way of celebrating the achievements of children and young people, we present our new Young Choir of the World competition (formerly Children’s Choir of the World). For 2024, each finalist from the Junior Children’s, Senior Children’s and Youth Choirs category will have the chance to perform in this evening’s concert Wales Welcomes the World to compete for the Young Choir of the World title with a prize of £750; the most inspiring conductor will receive £200. Prize money and trophy donated by Dr & Mrs Rhys Davies in memory of their son Owen Davies.
