Biography:

Ysgol Pen Barras Choir is a school choir from the beautiful medieval town of Ruthin in the Vale of Clwyd in North Wales, which is a stone’s throw away from the international eisteddfod site in Llangollen. We are a Choir that offers various opportunities to sing throughout the school year and we welcome anyone who is keen to join us and perform.

We practice weekly and currently have around 40-50 members from years 5 and 6. We are a Welsh school and are very proud of our musical traditions and language and therefore promote singing in our precious native language. We have numerous members that have learnt the language as a second language in our school and are now confident and proud to be able to converse and perform in Welsh. The Choir is directed by Mrs Elin Owen and Mrs Sioned Roberts, staff members from the school that have worked with the choir for over 10 years and given so many children excellent opportunities.

Ysgol Pen Barras Choir have been successful in a variety of competitions such as Côr Cymru, the Urdd Eisteddfod and Carol yr Ŵyl competitions and have performed in many concerts over the years. But our main goal and aim is to give every child the chance to enjoy singing and feel confident through music. We have competed in Llangollen before and find it an invaluable experience for the children, staff and parents.
