Biography: The Calgary Girls Choir was founded in 1995 by Elaine Quilichini in Calgary, Canada. The award-winning and internationally renowned Calgary Girls Choir (CGC) gives girls and young women a voice while meeting the creative challenge of choral music performance. This Kodály-based program builds skills in confidence, teamwork, projection, listening, perseverance, excellence, leadership, and creativity. Exceptional training in tone quality and musical sensitivity cultivates the beautiful, mature sound of the senior choristers, who push the boundaries of their abilities in the pursuit of choral excellence.
Generally speaking their choir is one that follows the classical style of choral performance. Their repertoire encompasses a wide variety of musical styles and periods including classical composers, new compositions and commissions, folk, gospel, jazz and the avant-garde. Their focus is on the vocal and musical education of their girls as well as the development of the character and spirit of the individual singers. They often employ props, musical instruments and movement and dance to complement and enhance their performances. They rehearse weekly at Knox Presbyterian Church in Calgary Alberta Canada.
The Calgary Girls Choir also has been awarded first place four times in the ACCC National Radio competition for amateur choirs.
